What Size Beach Blanket Do You Need? A WIWIGO Size Guide
Seat count on a beach blanket depends on whether people sit or lie down. Here is how our cuts work in real life.
Sitting versus lying
A seated adult takes up about 20 by 30 inches. A person lying flat needs roughly 24 by 72 inches. That is why a sheet that seats eight for lunch comfortably fits only three or four for a nap.
Plan for how your group actually spends the day. Families with small kids mostly sit and snack; couples usually lie down.
Our cuts at a glance
79″ × 83″: two adults lying down with bags, or four sitting. The right size for most couples and small families.
79″ × 108″ and 79″ × 110″: an extra two feet of length — three people lying down, or six sitting in a circle.
120″ × 108″ and 108″ × 120″: our largest cuts. Four or five adults lying down, or eight sitting with a cooler in the middle.
Leave room for stuff
A cooler, two bags and a pile of towels take up about a quarter of a 79″ × 83″ sheet. If you bring a lot of gear, go one size up.
Our corner pockets double as small storage for sunglasses and keys — but only after the sand is in them.
One big or two small?
Two standard blankets side by side give you more flexibility than one giant: split up at the picnic, join back together at the beach.
One large blanket is easier to stake down and keeps the group together. For families of six or more, we lean toward the big one.
